April 2023 U.S. Cutting Tool Orders Down 14.4% from April 2023
April 2023 U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $142.9 million, according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report collaboration, was down 24.7 percent from March's $189.8 million and down 31.1 percent when compared with the $207.5 million reported for April 2023. With a year-to-date total of $717.5 million, 2023 is down 14.4 percent when compared with April 2023.

U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders Decreased in April 2023 to 225.8 Million, the Lowest Monthly Total Since May 2010
U.S. manufacturing technology orders decreased 26% in April from the previous month to $225.8 million, the lowest monthly total since May 2010, according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report published by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. New orders were 39% lower than in April 2023. Total orders through April 2023 were just shy of $1.1 billion, 28% lower than 2023 orders during the same period.    (more)
U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders Increased in March 2023, Yet Deceleration Begins in Second Half of Month  
U.S. manufacturing technology orders increased 8% in March from the previous month to $301.2 million, according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report published by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. New orders were 29.3% lower than in March 2023. Total orders through March 2023 were $863 million, 26.1% lower than YTD 2023 orders.

The Smart Manufacturing Experience (SMX) Rescheduled
(SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 20, 2023) – SME and AMTThe Association For Manufacturing Technology today announced that they have rescheduled the Smart Manufacturing Experience (SMX) to September 14-16 at McCormick Place in Chicago, co-located with IMTS – The International Manufacturing Technology Show. SMX 2023, originally planned for June 2-4 in Pittsburgh, will focus the manufacturing community’s attention on the technologies and innovations of smart manufacturing, or Industry 4.0. The decision comes after careful consideration and consulting with advisors and event partners and was taken in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

February 2023 U.S. Cutting Tool Orders Down 4.2% from January
February 2023 U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $188.2 million, according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute (USCTI) and AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report collaboration, was down 4.2 percent from January's $196.5 million and down 8.5 percent when compared with the $205.6 million reported for February 2023. With a year-to-date total of $384.7 million, 2023 is down 8.5 percent when compared with 2023.

U.S. manufacturing technology orders increased 3 percent in February from the previous month to $277.9 million, according to the latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders report published by AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. New orders were 16.5 percent lower than in February 2023. Total orders through February 2023 are $547 million, 26.2 percent lower than YTD 2023 orders.

What goes down is likely to go up faster
As many previous recessions, depressions, and crashes have proven, U.S. business will be back. While preparing for the economic downturn, keep in mind that growing from the lowest point of the economic crash to reach pre-crash levels often occurs at a faster rate than falling. Having a plan for that recovery growth is as important as having a plan for possible threats.  (more)
